Will be adding the art I make for this comic and short little descriptions of them underneath! At some point I might even go through and include the date I created them. But who knows. I'm lazy.
This is the art I used as the background and such on this site! It was the first actual concept art I made, mostly to do a test on what brushes or colors I wanted to use to color things. Not too sure on how I feel about it anymore.
Okay, so, I was originally intending to render the Station in blender, but ultimately uh, haven't really done anything. I've got it installed and stuff, it's just very intimidating. Despite how simple it looks this alone took forever to come up with. Why? Well let me tell you finding reference images for modern space stations is hard enough as it is- doubly so if you're looking for references of the interior layout of the rooms, and when your story only takes place sliiightly in the future rather than like, 2000 years later, technology isn't going to be that much different! However most people REALLY like to make art of what super futuristic technology! Which is awesome but not what I'm looking for! So yeah, when it actually comes time to draw this it's going to be hell.
So, finally, boom! First character concept art! Except it's outdated concept art because I decided after I finished Altair's concept that this one was a little bit not good actually. So I re-did it and am a lot happier with it now. But I felt I should put it here anyway because hey- still concept art! And it was the first time I'd actually drawn any of the characters in this art style, so having it as a reference for later artwork helped a lot with consistency. So I do owe some things to this horribly bland character design.
This, too, is outdated! It uses Rigel's original character design rather than his current one. But it's still my profile picture on Tumblr because I haven't redrawn his new design because I've been kind of preoccupied with other things in my life. It was the first time I drew any of the characters in color though and came in handy as reference for his full color palette later down the line. There's also technically an alternate version which has a red overlay but I didn't like it as much.
Unsurprisingly, again, outdated! And honestly this didn't help me as much as the previous two did with future concept art, but it shows some other possible tattoo designs I was considering for Rigel, all of which I ended up scrapping in his redesign. And honestly looking back they look more like cutie-marks than anything.
Aaaand boom! Finally! Something up-to-date! This is Rigel's current design, complete with actual clothing and a tattoo that looks kind of neat. I put the note about his legs being muscular because- well, without spoiling anything: Rigel is someone who has done a lot of running in his life both literally and figuratively.
And here we are again with something a little bit out-of-date! This is the first ever sketch of Altair, and he looks tired because he is tired. You can kind of see here that I was originally going to give him a coat! But I couldn't figure out how to draw it so I scrapped that idea in the end. Still, I like his final design a lot.
Altair's full concept art! I was really proud of this when I first finished it, even if the pants did take for freakin' ever, and I still am. In his colored concept art, he wears all light colors except for the gloves, which are meant to draw the eye. There's small details like that with all the designs and believe it or not there's a plot reason for it. Also, the reason I gave him warmer clothes than Rigel is because he works with quantum computers, and I imagine that as a result he would be around a lot of cooling systems and is in the habit of dressing warmer as a result.
Aaaaand Callisto! I'm still working on his full-body concept, and when that's done I'm hoping to post a height chart of all of them beside each other in full color! As far as I imagine Rigel is the shortest and I keep flip-flopping between Altair and Callisto being the tallest. I'll figure it out eventually.
More to be added in the future.
